CBCS-UNICEF HOLDS GOVERNANCE TRAINING FOR COMMUNITY LEADERS IN MAGUINDANAO

Cotabato City (August 27, 2014, 9am): Consortium of Bangsamoro Civil Society, Inc (CBCS) lauded the 90 participants from different partner communities in Maguindanao who participated actively the series of training on Leadership Skills and Development Training held on August 20-26, 2014 at KFI training Center in Cotabato City. The activity is one of the features in the project supported by UNICEF Philippines, a peace-building initiative which entitled “The Darussalam Project: A conflict-sensitive bottom-up process with women and children towards a peaceful and developed Bangsamoro Communities”.

Municipality of Mamasapano took the first batch where their session ended on August 21, 2014, while Parang was on August 22-23, 2014 and Upi finishes its session just recently, August 26, 2014. South Upi, the last of the four is scheduled on September 2 and 3, 2014 on the same venue.

Guiamel M. Alim, CBCS chairperson in his speech, he encourages all the participants particularly Barangay Officials to be more pro-active and be a role model to every constituent. He further said “I know, we are facing so much difficulties in the area we are working especially on the issues of transparency and accountability. As you have been observed, corruption is still very imminent nowadays, it exists in many parts of the country, that is why, this training is designed to help you become more effective and responsive in your respective area” he added

On the other hand, the same training will be launched in Parang and Siasi in Sulu Province and Languyan in Tawi-Tawi on September, final schedule is now being organized by Project Team.

This training is one of the many capacity building activities that the project will introduce to these partner communities in the coming days under component 3 of the project that aims to strengthen the governance structure by providing them the knowledge/strategies and skills they need to propel their existing approaches in the administration of their respective barangay affairs.

Darussalam Project in its first year has piloted 14 barangays across 7 Municipalities of ARMM namely, Parang, Mamasapano, Upi and South Upi in Maguindanao, 2 Municipalities in Sulu Province, namely: Parang and Siasi and Languyan in Tawi-Tawi Province. It is expected to end on October 2014.
